So, I haven’t done a blog post in I-don’t-know-how-long, but I realllllly wanted to share an art diary of sorts that I made while at a retreat on the Vocations of Artist and Motherhood.
WHAT: A sketch diary I kept while I was at the retreat. It’s minimally edited and while I considered re-doing it all digitally, the original feels more powerful somehow, mistakes and cramped compositions and all.
WHEN: The 4 days at the retreat.
WHY: I was looking for a way to get back to hand-doodling. I’ve been so digitally based these past few years (kids! easy to clean and edit!) that I missed the type of sketch-journaling I used to do before. The notepad on the desk in my room was BLISSFULLY GOOD PAPER, with tooth and weight. (Thanks Laity!) The small format and limited pages felt non-threatening.
HOW: Felt marker and Brush pens in a few colors. No pencil… the drawings were done free-flow.
Here it is:
If you made it this far, THANKS for going on a little doodle-journey with me!
I hope that my sharing of a magical, but totally subjective, experience might have something for you, wherever you are and whatever you need right now.
